Scoutmaster weekly email – 6/7/26

Good morning Troop 380 friends and family!

Thank you to all of the adults who completed their SYT training on time.  Staying current on training allows our adults to be up-to-date with the most current suggestions and regulations, and allows the Troop to provide the best possible experience for our Scouts.  There are always opportunities to take additional training, and much of it is free on my.scouting.org.  Feel free to take a look and see what you can do to be the best support you can!

At last Monday’s troop meeting, the new patrols met for the first time.  The adult leadership is compiling a list of contact information for each scout and a parent.  If you haven’t provided that information yet, please be prepared to give that to your Patrol ASM on Monday.

Next Troop Meeting – TomorrowMonday’s troop meeting is patrol corners.  Scouts are encouraged to make suggestions to their Patrol Leader and Patrol ASM so that they can come together as a group.  Uniform choice is Class A or B, depending upon what the patrols decide.

ASPL Elections

If your scout is interested in running for Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, please reach out to me ASAP!  Nate, Robert, and I will meet with candidates and their parents at 6PM on June 15 to go over the responsibilities and expectations of this incredibly important position.

Remember, our troop is run by the scouts and it is important that our scouts continue to step up to the plate and volunteer to lead.  These leadership experiences literally change our scouts’ lives for the better.  Requirements include being a 1st Class Scout and having approval from the Scoutmaster.

Troop Meeting 6/15
There are two important things to plan for during the troop meeting on 6/15:

  • 1. Mandatory Summer Camp Meeting: Each scout going to summer camp must accompany at least one of their parents to this important meeting during our normal troop meeting on June 15.  We will be going over last minute information.  A Zoom option for the meeting is in the works, but the best way to be informed is to be there in person.
  • 2. MAC Night: Merit badges and advancement!
    • If your scout is not yet 1st Class and is working on advancement, make sure they take the time to look through their book and see what they can work on.
    • For our scouts in the merit badge classes, make sure you are doing your homework!
Summer Camp – Meriwether
  • All scouts and scouters going to Camp Meriwether should bring their packed bag to the troop meeting on June 22.
  • We will preload the trailer to help us leave on time on June 27.
  • Bring your cash in 1s and 5s as well as all of your personal gear.
  • Do NOT bring your medications with you on Monday, but DO make sure to bring them on the 27th when we leave.
Summer Camp – Chawanakee
This camp will take place from July 19-25.  This promises to be a wonderful trip, especially for our first-year scouts!

National Jamboree
Our scouts fortunate enough to be attending the National Jamboree are finalizing their preparations for the trip of a lifetime in July.  We all wish the best for each of you!

Columbia Employee Store Discount
Make your way to Richmond with the attached invitation for amazing deals on all sorts of gear!  From sleeping bags and backpacking tents to sandals and shorts, the Columbia Employee Store has it all!  Plus, if you go a little crazy and spend a ton of money (to save a bunch of money!), the store will happily give you an invitation that is good for the rest of the year.  Nate Roth and I went last weekend and we had a blast!  We also pretty much filled the back of my truck with new and exciting gear that we can’t wait to put to good use!
  • Bring Scouting identification or proof of membership (such as the ID card you can print in Scoutbook), and the attached flyer (print or pick one up at the meeting)
  • You can bring up to 4 guests per invitation
  • May 29 through June 21
  • Merchandise includes clothing, footwear, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and a variety of camping items. Brands include Columbia, Sorel, Mountain Hardware and prAna.
  • The store is located in the historic Ford Plant, and is NOT open to the general public without an invitation.
  • The Richmond Store is located next to the Rosie the Riveter World War II Museum. This is an outstanding free National Park Service site.  There are some great hiking and biking trails in the area, plus a World War II Victory Ship is located nearby. The Bay Ferry docks nearby, so a trip to San Francisco is another possibility.
