Scoutmaster weekly email – 5/31/26

Good morning, Troop 380!

And just like that, May is in the books. Next stop: SUMMER!  We have so many huge activities planned this summer so don’t be the one to miss out! Remember, we get out of this program what we put in so make sure to sign up for events early and often!

Adult Leader Training DUE TODAY 5/31

If you have not updated your training, you will almost certainly be dropped from the program by National.  If that happens, you will have to reapply and pay again. Don’t forget to check my.scouting.org to make sure that your training is up-to-date!

Medical Forms DUE TOMORROW 6/1

Medical forms are due tomorrow at the troop meeting.  Please make sure to turn them in to ensure that your scout is able to continue to take advantage of all of the adventures on offer. Adult leader forms are due, too!

Next Troop Meeting – Tomorrow

Uniform: Class A

Patrol realignment day is finally upon us!  After much deliberation and suggestions made by our scouts and their families, our scouts will meet for the first time in their new patrols.  The goal will be to elect a patrol leader and assistant patrol leader as well as design a new mascot/name, cheer and flag.  In addition, a backpacking demonstration will be provided in anticipation of our upcoming backpacking trip.

Tressa Long’s Eagle Project – Saturday

Tressa is continuing building bluebird boxes, and needs your help this Saturday, June 6. Please see Tressa for details!

We will have two groups: Group A for first-time backpackers and Group B for those with more experience. All Philmont-bound Scouts and adults will be in Group B for our first conditioning campout.

MANDATORY Summer Camp Meeting – June 15

All scouts and at least one parent/guardian must meet after the June 15 troop meeting for important information regarding our summer camp trips to Camp Meriwether (June 27-July 5) and/or Camp Chawanakee (July 19-25).  Please make sure that you and your scout are in attendance.

We will review travel itinerary, what to bring to camp, finalize paperwork, review advancement and program opportunities, banking, mail and much more.  It is very important that everyone attends this meeting so you are prepared for our week at these two outstanding camps.

ASPL Elections
The election will take place June 15. If you are interested in running for ASPL in the July election, please let me know as soon as possible. I will be meeting with candidates and a parent before the meeting that evening.  We will go over the timeline and expectations for the Senior Patrol Leader position.

A scout who is elected ASPL this round will serve as 2nd ASPL from July 2026 through November 2026, 1st ASPL from November 2026 through March 2027, and SPL from March 2027 through July 2027.  This scout will have the sought-after experience of leading the troop at summer camp next year!

Remember, this is a scout-led troop and this is a great chance for your scout to learn valuable leadership skills that will serve them well for the rest of their life!

Landin Speer’s Eagle Project – June 17

Landin Speer’s Eagle Project will take place at Cordova Church of Christ.  See Landin for details!

Columbia Employee Store Discount

One of our favorite stores has once again opened their doors for the Scouts. Great Discounts on Sportswear and Gear! As you prepare to go to summer camp, you might want to check out the Columbia Sportswear Employee Stores in Richmond and Union City. An amazing 40% discount is offered for the entire store!
  • Bring Scouting identification or proof of membership (such as the ID card you can print in Scoutbook), and the attached flyer (print or pick one up at the meeting)
  • You can bring up to 4 guests per invitation
  • May 29 through June 21
  • Merchandise includes clothing, footwear, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and a variety of camping items. Brands include Columbia, Sorel, Mountain Hardware and prAna.
  • The store is located in the historic Ford Plant, and is NOT open to the general public without an invitation.

Finally, I would like to hold an adult leader meeting after we complete our summer camp rotation.  We have multiple open positions that would benefit from an adult leader stepping up to support the troop and its scouts.  During this meeting, we will work to fill these vacant positions, give adult leaders the opportunity to switch up their roles, and provide training on how to properly lead events safely and successfully.  More details to follow!

Thank you again for everything you do, Troop 380 wouldn’t be the best troop around without everything each of you do!
