Scoutmasters Minute – May 3

Good morning Troop 380 family and friends!

First, I would like to extend thanks to Isaac Andrews and Jon Traum for their excellent leadership on the Las Trampas hike on yesterday. It was a beautiful day, and the first of many new hikes for our troop to experience!

Also, as we approach the summer season, I first wanted to take a moment to reflect on the most active time of the year for our Troop. We have 3 huge events this summer: Camp Meriwether, Camp Chawankee, and National Jamboree. These all promise to provide life-long memories for our Scouts and Scouters, and I look forward to hearing about these memories first-hand!

Second, as I stated during the Court of Honor, it takes many adults to make an organization such as Troop 380 successful, and we are always looking for more adult leaders to help support our program. During the committee meeting this last week, many great ideas were floated that could help drive engagement from adults who are on the sideline and unsure how best to help out. We have many ways for you to help your scout succeed, whether it be as a committee member, driver, or trained adult leader. Stepping into one of these roles does not need to be a scary or concerning decision, we are here to support you!

As scouts age out and their parents “retire” from the leadership and volunteer roles, it is very important that we backfill these vacant positions with newer faces to help drive the troop forward. Currently, we are actively looking leaders and volunteers to serve in these positions:

  • Patrol ASM
  • Popcorn Kernel – chairperson for popcorn sales fundraiser
  • Training Coordinator – helps ensure that upcoming scout and adult training is promoted, and tracks expiring certifications so that we can ensure our scouts are supported in the most complete way possible.

If you are interested in supporting the troop in a more official capacity, or if you have other skills or talents you think could serve or enrich the troop, please reach out to Alison Milobar (alisonmilobar@yahoo.com) or me by email or find us at any troop meeting. I’m sure we can find the perfect fit for you!

Summer Activity Medical Evaluations – Due June 1

As summer camp approaches, this is your reminder that we need your completed medical form (see attached). Part A and B are filled out by the families, but for camp, you must also have a physician complete Part C. Having proper paperwork is non-negotiable and your scout (and possibly you) will not be able to go to summer camp if all required forms are not turned in on time.

Please make your doctor appointments now because we need forms completed and turned in no later than June 1. If/when you have them complete, please turn in to Nathan Davis, Dave Ishikawa, or me.
