On April 30, forty-nine Scouts and 10 adults from Troop 380, descended on Beale AFB for the Scout Expo 2010. We arrived at Beale at 6:30 PM. We would have been earlier if it were not for the expert directions provided by MapQuest and our fearless Scoutmaster Michael Kuykendall. Attempting the North entry of the Base, the intrepid crew was denied entrance. Quick thinking ASM Mark Woosley maneuvered a perfect U-turn and the Troop was on their way. Once arriving at the front gate, we had no problems entering and soon found Dragon Town, the site of the Scout Expo. Troop 380 sprang into action and with little trouble arranged the tents into a faultless ―double U‖ at the gate to SR-71.
Saturday awoke to the sound of revelry. A hearty breakfast of oats, mini-wheats, and milk was served. Tickets were passed out for lunch at the Trading Post. The Troop participated in opening flags. The rest of the day was spent hiking to the flight line for a static display, merit badge alley, BMX biking, shooting bow/arrow, .22, and throwing tomahawks. Dinner was Mexican Tacos. The evening concluded with a stroll to the flight line for the arena show. A number of Troop 380 Scouts were a part of the show.
Sunday morning, we dined on oatmeal and any other morsel that was found in camp. We attended flags and an interfaith service. We rode a bus to the flight line to do a FOD (Foreign Object and Debris) walk. Thanks to the few that stayed behind for when we returned, the camp was broke down. We stuffed the trailer and came home. I cannot wait till Summer Camp.
