October 18-20, 2019. This camp out is a very special patriotic event. The Boy Scouts of America are one of the only organizations that are given permission to official retire United States of America flags. The Eternal Flame weekend was created to retire US flags in a dignified and special way by lighting a fire on Friday evening to continually retire flags, one by one over a special campfire. This fire continues until Sunday morning. The BSA and Golden Empire Council collects literally hundreds of flags during the year and Eternal Flame gives us the opportunity to take care of these flags in a large event. The last time we participated in this event the troop helped to retire over 1000 US flags that have served their time. The weekend also features patrol and troop events, a special movie, and a special ceremony for new USA citizens.
