October 18-20, 2019. Â This camp out is a very special patriotic event. Â The Boy Scouts of America are one of the only organizations that are given permission to official retire United States of America flags. Â The Eternal Flame weekend was created to retire US flags in a dignified and special way by lighting a fire on Friday evening to continually retire flags, one by one over a special campfire. Â This fire continues until Sunday morning. Â The BSA and Golden Empire Council collects literally hundreds of flags during the year and Eternal Flame gives us the opportunity to take care of these flags in a large event. Â The last time we participated in this event the troop helped to retire over 1000 US flags that have served their time. Â The weekend also features patrol and troop events, a special movie, and a special ceremony for new USA citizens.
