We had a wonderful time at Yosemite National Park. We arrived to falling ashes and lots of smoke from the Rim Fire on Friday, August 30th. At 5pm that day, we left from Dave’s house. Sadly, we could not see the beautiful granite walls of Yosemite Valley on Saturday because of all of the ashes. Then we set up camp in the dark on our Yellow Pines Campground. The next day, we visited Curry Village, Happy Isle, Vernal Falls, the Ahawahnee Hotel, Visitor Center, and Yosemite Falls. The next day, we traveled to Bridalveil Falls, the Mariposa Grove and saw the gigantic Redwood trees. We also visited the Wawona Hotel and continued on to Glacier Point to see the famous Half- Dome, the Yosemite Valley, and the amazing Sierra Nevada. The scouts hiked from Glacier Point to the valley. The hike was 5 miles with a drop of 3,000 vertical feet. Then, on Monday, we stopped to watch climbers on El Capitan after completing our service project. The original service project was delayed by all of the ashes and smoke. Thanks to all of the drivers and adult leaders, we had a great time at one of our nation’s most beloved national parks. Thank you to Jon Traum for organizing this trip, it was a lot of fun. Also, I would like to thank all of the scouts and special guests we had with us this trip. The cost was 25 dollars and we returned on Monday, September 2nd at 4pm to Dave’s house.
