Scoutmasters Minute – 2/16/2025

Greetings All,

Please see below some important events remaining for February and March:

  • No Troop meeting: Please note that there will be no meeting scheduled for February 17th 2025- In observance of Presidents Day which honors the contributions of our nation’s leaders we will not hold our regular meeting on this day. We appreciate your understanding and encourage everyone to take this time to reflect and celebrate.
  • Pack 305 Blue and Gold Ceremony: On Wednesday February 19 2025 we will proudly be bridging 2-3 scouts into our troop at 6:30 PM. The event will take place at McGarvey Elementary School located at 4350 Sophistry Drive Rancho Cordova CA 95742- This special occasion marks an important milestone for both the bridging scouts and our troop. If you signed up to participate Nate Roth will be sending out for further information before the event.
  • Klondike Derby: February 21-23 2025 – we are now less than one week away from what promises to be an exhilarating camporee set against a stunning snowy backdrop! Participants will be gathering on Friday at 5 PM at Nycon and the excitement is already building as we prepare for this thrilling adventure. It’s essential to ensure that you have all your cold weather gear packed including insulated jackets, gloves and sturdy boots to keep you warm during our outdoor activities. Don’t forget to bring a sack dinner for Friday night along with some money for In and Out on the way back. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our skills, teamwork and spirit. Let’s go out and demonstrate to the other troops exactly what Troop 380 is all about – camaraderie, enthusiasm and adventure await us in the snowy wilderness!
  • Eagle Scout Projects: We are excited to announce that we have two dedicated scouts working diligently on their Eagle Scout projects which are an essential part of their journey towards achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Jullian Buell the first part of his project on February 15th, his second part will be taking place on March 8th. Ethan Hammond has scheduled his project for February 22nd, March 15th and March 29th. These projects are not only significant milestones for Jullian and Ethan but also provide valuable contributions to our community. Support and assistance from fellow scouts, family members and community volunteers are greatly appreciated in helping these two scouts accomplish their meaningful projects. Your involvement can make a real difference in the successful completion of their endeavors. If you have any queries or require additional information about the projects please don’t hesitate to reach out to Jullian or Ethan during our troop meeting. Both scouts will have sign-up sheets available on the front table where you can express your interest in lending a helping hand. Thank you for your support and encouragement!
  • Scouting for Food:   Saturday, March 1st, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM.  Scouting for Food is our annual project that will help those less fortunate.  We will collect food in the Rosemont neighborhood and donate the food to the Rancho Cordova Food Closet.  Troop 380  annually collects well over two tons of food during the project.  Our expectation is that all Scouts participate in this project.  We need 100% participation so we can cover our area.  Please see Kiah McDowell or Katy Hammond if you would like to assist with the project.  Sign up at the troop meeting. Don’t forget two bring canned foods to the troop meeting on 24th. The patrol that collects the most will receive a prize.
  • Three Rivers District Awards Night: Thursday, March 20, 2025, 6:45 PM, at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento.  Let’s all get out and attend this special event honoring our top leaders.  Troop 380 will have a very special group of scouters begin honored which will be announced at the February parents meeting.  Registration has been paid by the Troops for this special dessert evening.
  • Skills Camp Out: March 21-23, 2025.  Our most popular camp out of the year will take place at Beals Point which is part of the Folsom Lake State Park.  This is our annual opportunity to sharpen our scout skills.  Older scouts will be asked to help teach or review skills.  Younger scouts will work on advancement.  It will also be a time to get ready for the Spring Camporee, Summer Camp and future troop outings.  Drew Walters will be our Scout in Charge with guidance from ASMs Nate Roth and Nathan Davis. Sign ups are available at the Troop Meetings.  Get ready for a great camp out with food, fun and great instruction.
  • Capital City Airshow: We will once again be supporting the airshow by hosting some concession booths. It is a great way to see the show and help at the same time. This year will be somewhat different from past years as we have some new exciting opportunities for volunteers. If interested, please see Tonia Cameron at the February 24th troop meeting to learn more and sign up. All signups need to be completed by March 1st to ensure we have everything in place for the event.

Yours in Scouting,

Michael Speer
