On November 11, 2010, the Sacramento Youth Symphony put on a Veterans Day concert called ―Patriotism & Peace Concert, at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. The two-hour performance included patriotic music, the Sacramento Mandarins, and short presentations on the 442nd Regiment, Tuskegee Airmen and the Navajo Code Talkers. News10’s Sharon Ito was the emcee and over 2200 people attended the concert. The best part of all was the Presentation of Colors. At the beginning of the concert, 17 Boy Scouts from Troop 380 served as honor guard. They marched in unison down the center aisle of the auditorium and stood at attention while the Governor’s Color Guard carried the flags to the stage. The Boy Scouts remained in form while the symphony played the Star Spangled Banner. During the concert, the Boy Scouts presented gifts to each of the speakers from the 442nd Regiment, Tuskegee Airmen and the Navajo Code Talkers, conductors Dan Fong and Isaac Smith, plus Sharon Ito. A big thank you goes to Michael Kuykendall for leading this exciting event.
