Troop 380 is working on the Folsom Lake Trek, which is a series of six 10-mile day hikes to complete a loop all the way around Folsom Lake. On Saturday April 23, we completed the second segment, when we hiked 10 miles from Granite Bay to Folsom Point. We had 5 adults and 10 youth participate. This hike was a little more urban than our last one, but we got to see the face of Folsom Dam up close as well as the new spillway that is currently under construction. We also saw bald eagles flying over the Dam.
Scouts participating in these hikes, in addition to earning a cool patch, can earn the hiking merit badge. The core requirement for the merit badge is to take five 10-mile hikes and one 20-mile hike. Participating in five out six of the Folsom Lake Hikes will fulfil the 10-mile hike requirement.
We will be taking a break from doing the Folsom Lake Hikes during the busy and hot summer months, but stay tuned for the next hike to be scheduled sometime in the fall.
