On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Scouts and Scouters from the Capital City District gathered to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of individuals, units, and the district. The Buddhist Church of Sacramento hosted the event for over 200 people. Kudos go out to Maryann Evans and her committee for a great evening. Don Dier and LaMar Mitchell planned and cooked a great meal of chicken and beef. Chris and Dave Ishikawa helped to plan the program. Mac Cameron, Tonia Cameron, Ralph Merrill, Peggy Merrill, Phil Allen, Johnie Pennington and Mike Evans worked hard to help make this event happen. Several of our own Scouters were recognized for their work and support of Scouting. Joseph Jacobs and Sue McCune were recipients of the Unit Spark Plug Award.
Michael Kuykendall was awarded the Phil Bollhoefer Scoutmaster Award. Elizabeth Ruygt was recognized for her work as a commissioner. Sue Garcia, Jimmie Garcia, Ralph Merrill, Peggy Merrill, Naomi Mellerkski, Sharon Jonas, Dave Ishikawa, Johnie Pennington, and Kim Perry-Reed were recognized by Chris Ishikawa for their work on the hard working Roundtable staff. The Pennington family (for work with Pack 380) and the Shaw family were named Scout Families of the Year. Johnie Pennington was also recognized as a District Trailblazer. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the District Award of Merit. Kim Perry-Reed was selected as one of three Silver Bear (District Award of Merit) recipients for our district.
Congratulations to all of our award winners and to everyone who helped make this evening a big success. Troop 380 should be proud of their part in the annual district celebration.
