May 21 and 22, 2022, the Philmont Crew held another preparation hike. 19 scouts (youth and adult leaders) went to Meiss Trailhead on the Pacific Crest Trail (PST) and started the 5 mile trek to Showers Lake. The trek was slow going do to the amount of snow on the ground that covered the trail causing us to get off track. The ground snow increased in depth the further we hiked, getting to about 5 feet at the last accent to the lake. This deep snow caused us to turn around as we were not prepared for that much snow. We hiked just over 10 miles and had an elevation gain of almost 1100 feet.

All participants did a great job and we now have a better idea of what we need to work on for the next hike on June 10th – 12th.
