February 23 – 24, 2013, 13 scouts and 5 adults slid into the Martis Lake campgrounds for the 2013 Klondike Derby. We arrived early Saturday morning and set up camp. We shushed our way to opening flags, got the agenda, and headed out for the events. There were 14 events with various degrees of Scouting skills to accomplish. For lunch, we had hot chili, cheese, and onions. Afterwards, we headed back to the arena for the Sledge race and Snowshoe race. We placed in 6 events and won 6 awards. Later that evening, we had a hearty stew (thanks Dave), and rolls. During our late nite trudge to the ‘privy’, many took advantage of the full moon. It was neat to see the moon shining up the frozen tundra. Sunday morning brought 5 degree weather. We packed up and headed home to dry out and unload. I can not wait till next year! Mush!
